Mastering Homeschooling During Pregnancy and Newborns: Tips for Success and Family Bonding
Share
Today, I'm coming to you as I am, with no makeup and my hair casually tied up. Why? Because I want to show you the real, unfiltered side of homeschooling. Regardless of our appearances, we homeschool moms are dedicated to providing our children with quality education while managing the everyday chaos that comes with it. So, let's get real and take a look inside my homeschooling journey.
The Real Home:
Take a peek into my living room, and you'll see the aftermath of our busy day – a delightful mess of books scattered around. This is the reality of our home, where homeschooling is a central part of our lives. We do make an effort to decorate, but we also embrace the chaos of daily life. With seven people under one roof, it's a constant whirlwind of activity.
Homeschooling Through Pregnancy and Postpartum Depression:
I've had the incredible experience of homeschooling five children through pregnancy and caring for newborns, all while battling severe postpartum depression. It wasn't easy, but there's one crucial lesson I've learned: relaxation is key. Some days, you might feel awful, and that's okay. Letting go of the need to be perfect is the first step.
Bonding Through Books:
During my pregnancies, I often found myself sitting on the couch with my growing belly, surrounded by books and snacks for my little ones. We'd spend hours reading together, even as I got up for bathroom trips countless times. This created a bond and taught them valuable lessons about helping and serving one another.
Teaching Children to Serve:
One of the most important lessons I've imparted to my children during pregnancy and postpartum periods is the value of service. I encouraged them to help me when I needed it most. This not only lightened my load but also instilled a sense of responsibility and empathy in them. They learned that life has its ups and downs, and we make it work together as a family.
Balancing Education and Relaxation:
While I aimed to provide a structured education, there were days when I simply didn't feel up to it. On those occasions, I allowed guilt-free movie time. However, I made sure that the movies we watched were educational, such as scripture-based films, ensuring that learning continued even during downtime.
Incorporating Learning into Daily Life:
Harness the power of technology to keep education on track. Set up laptops and educational programs for your children, allowing them to learn independently while you rest or care for the newborn. Encourage them to assist with baby care tasks, further emphasizing the importance of teamwork within the family.
The Family Baby:
Remember, the newborn isn't just your baby; it's a part of the entire family. Even if you can't breastfeed, involve your older children in feeding, diaper changes, and bath times. By doing so, you transform the baby into a shared responsibility, fostering unity within the family.
As you navigate homeschooling through pregnancy and caring for a newborn, remember that you don't have to send your child to school during this challenging period. Instead, involve them in serving and caring for the family, creating lasting bonds and teaching them valuable life lessons. Embrace the chaos, and you'll find that your family emerges from this experience even stronger. You've got this!
